Loving Stares

You don’t get it
you can’t understand
and yet for my sake
you always say that you can,
         you say you do
but I know that's for me
And for this
         I’ll always pray
that you'll never see

Loving stares
         can reveal so much more
than a thousand words
         anesthetically poured

Loving stares
        can reveal so much more
than a thousand words
       anesthetically poured

I’ve never cared
no not before
It’s a shame
     but it's a pity more,
 what is, is
         in the past, it’s a-gone
and it ain't coming back

times change and so do we
   always wrestling with the troubles
of trying to get free

and we often say those things
      that we don't mean
hoping, praying, it was only a dream

                 And I feel blessed
to have had you there
                 I feel blessed
to have someone that cares

and for this
I can never repay
I can only promise to
be yours everyday
     forever yours,
forever near
   with only love
          and never the fear

Posted for Open Link Monday at Imaginary Garden with Real Toads.  Check em' out and get your fill of some wonderful poetry.

As for this piece, well it started off as a poem, then turned into a song.  If anyone out there has a good voice and would like to sing it, I'd love to hear it.

  1. Beautiful, emotive, and inspiring; we are definitely being spoiled with these recordings.

    1. Thanks Anna, Spoiled might be the key word for my singing, but I do appreciate that you enjoyed it.

  2. This is a very successful blend of poetry and song - it reads well, but listening to you sing-and-say the words, adds a different dimension to the mood.

    1. Thanks Kerry, glad you enjoyed the piece. I write songs all the time, and just up until recently I didn't know how to post audio, now I do, I've been doing much more of it. Thanks again.

    1. Thank you. Really glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, there are many sides to me…lol Yeah, well, many people have told me my voice isn't the greatest too. But that's kind of why you won't hear the high pitched stuff from me, definitely know my limitations lol Yeah, I've been really enjoying the RT pages, been reading them for a while but just really started the past month or so contributing a piece here or there. Definitely a very good site.

  5. The song of love floats off like a dove. Going all lovey dovey on us now? First talking to yourself and not this? Geez are you in some sort of bliss?..lol...the cat can't carry a tune in a bucket, so no help there, but of course I have other ways at my lair.

    1. hey, yeah, lovey dovey just appeared. haha as did the letter, I can't control what my mind thinks up, otherwise it would all be dragons, warriors and stuff like that, perhaps a super-hero or two, but I think you've got that cornered at your zoo, with my buddy tarsier and his buggy eyes. Hey, don't sell yourself short, I like the theme songs you do. Thanks

  8. Fred- This is a great poem/song. I especially like the repitition of this such powerful stanza-

    Loving stares
    can reveal so much more
    than a thousand words
    anesthetically poured

  11. Yes, has wistful lyricism of song. In some ways, it's like two songs. (I think this happens when you write poems that become songs, as because you are writing it down, there's a reluctance to be as repetitive as in a song.) But you might consider doing it - really having the refrain repeat more. It may mean separating out some of the verses or putting in another song - because I think your Loving stares stanza is your refrain. k.

  14. What a sweet expression! It sounds like it should be a song... is it? If so I love the chorus. And you're right; a look can be so much more powerful than a thousand words sometimes. That being said, your words here are powerful, and I can't even see you, haha!

  15. This is powerful stuff:
    "Loving stares
    can reveal so much more
    than a thousand words
    anesthetically poured"

Well done. I could definitely see this as a song. Excellent work.

  16. okay, so i can't listen right now but i just love these lines. they speak to a bond that knows it can't be everything for the other, but is, anyway. i love it, so plainly expressed. thank you for this! and i'll come back to listen :)
