The Quest for Artistic Relevancy in an Era of Complacency

Beat Sample
         A rush to judgment
in the world of parallel ties
custard cream swabs to skin
brisk mornings still in states of gin
carving one’s niche often requires a period of trial and error
          how we view the errors
often dictates how quickly the double blinds begin

Dub Frenzy
         viral campaign
                  demonic strain of wherewithal
damage…
         broken harness…reigning in
damage…
         Hecates scar
upon the aortic wall
         and, all for
WHAT?
A groove in a time of slow Jazz
A riff in the era of the balladeer
A solo while attraction is clearly in the corner of creative collaboration…
bucking trends is admirable on paper
yet once your artistic gumption is clearly on display
                           slowly rock aback
until you are innocently enough
         back rocking the beats
                  in a sample of desire
in a temporary purge of inner fire
rage…
         adapt.
spin.
spin.
         SpIN

Another Tuesday is upon us, and as per the wonderfully recent tradition that is D'Verse, Open Link Night is here again.  Doors open at 3pm, so get out your pen and bring your poetic appetite, for this night is always hopping, with the best coming out in everyone.  See you there.  Cheers!

  1. ha, really nice rhythm in this fred....the build up and release to the music for me...music will do that, take me away or free me enough to let go and let it...

  2. This had a great beat as the frenzied along the verse street. Mixing it up a bit, yet spin spin spinning it to make quite the hit.

  3. A groove in a time of slow Jazz
A riff in the era of the balladeer
A solo while attraction is clearly in the corner of creative collaboration… artists so often go against the flow..question things..searching for new ways...and often go the not so comfortable ways because they see their dreams... cheers to creating!!

  4. Biting and thought provoking. As ever your range, diction, and set of artistic tools astounds. This seems both aligned and at odds with the language poets, a position I think we're all caught in, somehow of and out of our time. Trying to create something meaningful while we question meaning.

  5. In this world of "parallel ties", "carving one’s niche often requires a period of trial and error" and persistence and patience and a sense of being kind to self when it all doesn't spin the right way! Love the whorl in the poem - like a whirling dervish!

  6. Like slow spinning whirlpool. An artistic journey, learning, learning from errors, producing and then remaining humble enough so as to be able always be able to see things with new eyes, thus producing fresh work. That's how I see this. Love your reading. :)

  8. This reminded me of an old Buffy Ste Marie song--Little Wheel, Spin and Spin--about much the same subject--this is full of exceptional language--absolutely love these lines:
    "..and, all for
    WHAT?
A groove in a time of slow Jazz
A riff in the era of the balladeer.."
but we keep singing, because we have to, I think. Really an excellent piece, Fred.
