Unplugged

Machinations embody the presence of the modern air—
Yet, take away impulse
And they all just fill space with their cold grey stares

Between blood and flesh exists a soul
One to which only one can truly control
And despite the distractions that comprise the voids
It breathes, it feels, it lives
Although forgotten,
Amongst this flood of technological divide

Constructing patterns that adhere to path
Cannot find deliverance through wires alone

One must bite beneath the waves of efficiency
Unplug to find the gifts granted
When mankind first began

Sometimes one must return to nature in order to build upon what is already there…

Written and shared for tonights Poetics which I'm hosting over at D'Verse.  Were unplugging for the weekend, come join us with your poetry…promise we won't byte...

Beneath The Sky

Hope and its various disembodiments,
Terraced upon a grove of grey-maroon
Tonsils, connect the innuendoes of jasmine
And lavender to the uncommon shrills fostered
Beneath old basins once familiar to mill-bred granules
That had long since forgotten the joy of wind born free.

Below the sky there are many reprehensible tales to be found.  Unfortunately, the search is much easier than the rescue.

Photosynthetic, a Ghazal

I am born from this earth.  Seed, soil, roots and leaves
I sprawl in the sun’s light.  I cry each time it leaves.

I forgive the darkness. Knowing, morning will come.
I kneel before the sky. Basking, in all God leaves

I grow weak as time wears.  Quickly, I outgrow my bed.
I extend limbs outward.  Stretching as tension leaves.

I expand, inch by inch. To the sun, wide I yawn.
I expel precious breath. To the air, my best leaves.

I wake to refreshed air. Today brings tomorrow.
I harness moisture’s beads. Dewdrops caress my leaves.

I share all that I may. Aware, that love remains.
I weep tears of pure joy. They glisten on my leaves.

I dream within my bed. A cycle without end
I watch as the stars shine. Changing, as evening leaves

I have all I should need. I ask for nothing more.
I am blessed and prepared. In me, love sprouts new leaves.

Over at D'Verse, Sam Peralta is tending the bar for this week's Form-For-All.  This time we're writing Ghazals.  Stop on by and read Sam's excellent introduction, where he'll explain the ins and outs of this truly beautiful form.  I'm pretty sure you'll find some inspiration to try your hand at one and once you do, be sure to link it up with all the other excellent responses from the poets of D'Verse.

Growth of the Tempest

By neap tides flow
birthing out the ebb of whim

With strata high
the clouded mind will Cirrus cry

Whether gust or gale
summations incur each and every

A wrath of Neptune concurrent
with the moon’s posture, as it left you last night, longing for

Winds billowing cross the neck’s fracture
kneels compartmentalized in the moss and mud, where

Mere seconds expose the reach of sky
uncovering the discounted diatribe on which our abated lies
so soon follow,

Lost within, you idly stray; the depths exposed are the same
in where the tempest grew; whistling as it whetted plots of soiled

garments made of stone.  It’s all they ever owned.

The Hornet

To my favorite fading hornet,
I know not if you ever shall
Be in true receipt of this message
I am breathing out into the ethos now

To my fading favorite hornet, I
Wonder if you’ve lived your last of days to come
To the fullest that can be done.  I imagine your choosing
Not to sting, ruffled both friend
And kin alike.

To the hornet fading, you frightened
Me at first, as you dawdled about my
Garden green.  The small sphere you
Occupied seemed to grow it’s dimensions
Out.  Seeing you, preoccupied, with whatever
Your intent there was, altered the chemistry
Of my being.

Blood runs hot yet fear heats further and to
Calm, the body alters by influx, fusing in the
Coldest paralysis man could ever know.
You circled about me, mingled with my hair, peering
Into cavities exposed and I felt the ice chipping quickly
As I realized you were not at all like your cousins, the one’s
I met buzzing by the weeds when I was yet more than a little old.

To my favorite fading hornet,
Sting me now, so you at least
Could depart knowing exactly
How it felt to oblige the nature you
Never chose

To my fading favorite hornet,
You’ve more then proved yourself
A friend, spending time with me,
Despite the incoherency, I believe
You understood me, as I, believe I
Can also say, I understand both the pleasure
And the peril, of your today, tomorrow and yesterday

therefore, please, please
allow me to extend my arm to you,
for I can think of no coda fitting, aptly
more, than to forever bear the scar of your
charm

Well, fell asleep for a day and a half, well, not really, but I definitely was unable to hop online yesterday. Luckily for me though, the D'verse Open Link Night party is still raging on with the fullest of forces and there is so much fun to explore and see, so how bout following me over there.
