Lunar Possession

Vociferous stranger, vacant you swoon
Dispersing anathemas with each step
Whence meters find their distant promenade

Benumbed sentry traipsing beneath grey moons
With the countenance of dark secrets kept
As rays lower upon your unmarked grave

The furtive glance secretes visions of ruin
As spindrifts thrash forth their echoic stet
Forever haunting the taciturn stave

Hunger asphyxiates the sated tune
While the parched arrhythmia slowly wept
For the heart knows what the enemy craves

The boy shook, as the thirsting neon crept
Whereas a mother’s love, prayed while he slept

Over at D'Verse, Sam presents us a unique twist to the sonnet form for this week's Formforall, something he calls the Trireme Sonnet.  It was certainly fun putting this piece together, think I wound up deviating from the pentameter a bit in places, but other than that, followed the 10 syllable, ABC-ABC-ABC-ABC-(Choice of AA, BB, or CC Heroic Couplet).  I definitely recommend you check out his article and see what the poets of D'Verse came up with. Cheers!

As The Flash Deceives the Eye to Feel

Muzzle, nuzzling moist, emitting light
Unto a flashpoint, a halo torn, ripped
Away from whence were born.  Siren’s
Flare, deafening stare, a shadow cries
From deep nowhere, eclipsing pathos
Upon steins well poured, as the sated
Lay bloat till morn. Grazed, snipped—tongue
tipped, teeth gripped, glazed eyes, rolled back in.

Ordeals only remain when remembered as real, and all
The mares at night, forever shall, ride away as
Dawn ascends upon, this, a pasture of the flesh.

Rainfall scatters as dense brush peaks, turning silent
As blind thoughts reap, tricking, tracking, the mind to
Play, with those fears you’ve saved away, for times
When only self-loathing will do, the trick to reinforce
How much you hate what lives in you.

Repaint the partitions.  Anoint the buried wood.  Remove the
Stains and all else that never should, live another hour that
Instills the reinforcing of any remaining shards of pain.

Baku

Before you go to bed at night
say your prayers; say them right
then nestle in, under covers spell
and ever, always sleep; sleep well

But if a problem should occur
if you hear an angered word
or see a face with fangs in blood
just remember, this is but a dream
that’s gone wrong… that it is something
so easily solved

Remember, there are no such things as ghosts
Remember, there are no such things as monsters
Thoughts spoken to ease the child’s mind
Thoughts, naively conceived

Simply look above you there
and choose to see Baku
then permit him to devour
your every nightmare clean

Then reawake
in a refreshed state
by dreaming the sweetest dreams
You’ve ever seen

The Baku is a mythical creature that comes from the lore of Japan.  There are many different descriptions of what a Baku looks like.  The more modern description shows him to look like a giant tapir, having the body of a horse, the head of a lion and the legs and paws of a tiger.
They are the type of creature that lives mutually with humans.  Whenever a person awakes, after suffering a nightmare or bad dream, it is told that if that person calls on Baku, he will.  He’ll enter the dreamers mind and eat all the fragments of the nightmare up.  The human will then awake feeling refreshed and  it is told they will experience a very peaceful day.
